Name: Quincie Gourley                 unnamed (3)

Hometown: Gonzales, CA

Major: Agricultural Communication

Year: Third year

Position: Web and Outreach Associate

Describe your agricultural background?

Growing up I had shown market hogs for 10 years through 4-H, where I was introduced to the passion and the sense of community that local produce companies share with the youth. Living in the Salinas Valley, the Salad Bowl of the World, fresh produce companies often show their support through the community by purchasing market animals at the county fair. After my first year at Cal Poly, I interned at the Monterey County Fair, where I was in charge of sponsorships, marketing, and media. My sophomore year, I decided to give the fresh produce industry a try, I worked under Taylor Farms’ sales team- I FELL IN LOVE. This summer I will be interning with a produce seed company, Rijk Zwaan- I am beyond excited!

What has been your favorite thing you’ve done at Cal Poly?

One of my most favorite activities at Cal Poly has been Cal Poly’s Western Bonanza.  I have been involved in Western Bonanza since my freshman year, starting with the Swine Committee. My second year, I was on the media committee, and this past year I was the Sponsorship Coordinator. This upcoming year, I have been given the position of Marketing Manager, where I manage sponsorship, media, and merchandise teams.

What is your favorite social media platform? Why?

I personally enjoy Instagram the most. Having the opportunity to create your own brand through captions, lighting of photos, and the overall visual appearance is something that I have a lot of fun with. I personally try to post about once a month, unless something super exciting has happened in my life, where I feel the need to post again.

What are your favorite hobbies?

I am usually found adventuring, but hardly ever without my camera or my phone (for the camera) in hand. I really enjoy being behind the camera, capturing all the world’s beauty, and people’s personalities. I like going on hikes and to beaches around San Luis Obispo, there is so much exploring to do! I have a growing list of adventures I would like to accomplish before I graduate, and leave the Central Coast.

What are you looking forward to most joining the Brock Center Team? (tasks such as editing, design, social media, etc.)

I am looking forward to the outreach aspect of joining the Brock Team! I enjoy talking to people about topics and organizations I am passionate about. Knowing that I like the creativeness aspect of social media, being able to design the Brock Center website is something that I am very excited about doing!
